my 1984 polaris 440ss has twin cylinders and 1 carb.

my problem; running on 1 cylinder only? (flywheel side)
heres what i have done;
checked spark and seemed ok on both plugs, switched plug wires and seem to run abit better.(still the same side only; CDI maybe?)
checked comp. and same on both jugs.
getting lots of gas on the dead cylinder spark plug
but it puffs out some smokewhen i pull out the plug?
pulled the head off and the piston looks good and is tight to the jug(alot of carbon build-up).
cleaned the carb.

what am i missing? is there a timing issue, maybe a new CDI box?

HELP PLEASE, THANKS, dew

it will run with throttle opened up but wont substain a high rpm, also it wont idle. ill let it run awhile and the left clylinder is cold. pull the plug and a bit of smoke rolls out and the plug is covered with gas.
i switched the plugs and put different plugs in and no difference.
but it seems to run alittle better when i witch the wires from the cdi but stll the left cylinder is dead.
not seeing any leakage from the crank bearing on the clutch side
is it firing on the wrong revolution?
is there a way to check the CDI ?

thanks for the input and keep it coming. not sure were to check next!

thanks for the quick reply!
im gonna try that cuz i have no idea what else it could be?
but seems a little odd that when i switch the wires still no firing in the left side, but im not sure if thats the route to take when checking for good spark.
and i dont know how the CDI pack functions.

any suggestions were to buy one,

thanks again, dew
