i have an 84 srv good sled in good shape it has 6400 miles on it i was just wandering when its a good time to do a rebuild on the motor. it has not ever been rebuilt before and it has good compression still, about 115 on each cylinder after 4 pulls for compression check. i just wanna know when a rebuild should be done so don't have problems in the future. thanks

I have to be honest its probably do for one now. My rule of thumb is anything over 20 years old with high or low miles I would replace the crank seals to. Just because the compression is good doesn't always mean that the pistons themself aren't wore out. I've seen piston skirt cracking on some of those srv 540's with less miles than you have and their compression was ok. I must say those 540's are great running engine's and for the most part bullet proof.

Thank u. I'm not gonna re do it right now. I was told once if something's running good and nice, leave it alone. I'm not having issues so I'm not going to tear it apart now
