Use 2 stroke oil labeled "for injection systems".
The oil and gas is mixed by the machine near the carbs and yes, it is a 250cc.
The choke/enricher is activated with the lever standing straight out from the console for starting.
In the down position after it will idle on it's own for riding.

 

Thnx. for the quick reply! So, where the gas cap is (in front of the seat next to the console)...I am going to put in my 2 stroke oil 8.5oz. mixed with the gas AND the oil tank under the hood will be a different oil? Sorry, but I'm a little confused.

You are only going to want to put just gas in your gas tank, the sled has an oil injection system in it meaning it is going to mix the oil in your gas for you automatically, so just gas in the tank and your two stroke "injection oil" only in the oil tank. Considering that there was gas in the oil tank you might want to prime your oil pump, I am not sure how you do that I am sure someone here can help you with that.

 

Thnx. for the replies. Ok, so I guess the 2 stroke oil "injection oil" is what I put in the Oil tank. I believe it would be 8.5 oz. according to the data plate for the 250cc..
I'll wait on a few more repies as far as priming the oil pump. If I get nothing, then I'll just do a new post on it. But in the mean time, I guess I'll also do a search!

I would think possibly the oil pump may not work,previous owner may have pre mixed gas,and used the resovoir for a "back up ". just my guess,but make sure one way or the other.

Are you sure, RJ? All the Phazer's I've seen have been 500 fan coolers... Maybe I'm confused.

 

Its a 485cc engine, not a 250. Yamaha never made a 250cc Phazer.
To find the gas cap, you will need to open the little door that is just ahead of the seat, below the handlebars.
I dont think I would even worry about priming the oil pump. What I would do is premix that fuel at a 32:1 ratio and then just keep an eye on the oil level. As long as the oil level goes down, I think you should be good to go.

 

Ok, it's a 485cc. I know where the gas tank (cap) is. From what I gathered, the previous owner had kids who put fuel into the oil tank. Don't know IF it was mixed correctly OR if gas should have even been put in there OR why they even did it!. I emptied it out.
So, I've been confused for almost a week now and going nuts with the kids who want to ride this thing. I put gas in the gas tank and 2 stroke injection oil in the oil tank? How much oil?
But now OCTANE is mentioning to premix the fuel and keep an eye on the oil level? What oil level? No one has told me how much to put in. Sorry guys, I am mechanically inclined, I just never owned a sled before and I am totally confused.

ok in your oil tank under the hood put your two stroke oil in fill it up doesnt matter how much you put in there. Like stated above I wouldnt worry about priming your pump if your arent mechanically inclined premix your first tank of gas to the ratio stated above, drive it around and see if the oil level goes down in the oil tank. If it does that will determine if you oil injection is working (oil injection means it is going to mix your oil and your gas together automatically basically for the ease of riding and being able to pull up to a gas pump and fill up w/o premixing) if you oil level doesnt go down at all I wouldnt worry about looking into it any further either bring it in for servicing or just always mix your oil and gas together

The oil injection system will normally do the premixing for you, but if you are unsure about the operation of the oil injection system, it would be a good idea to premix the first tank of fuel just to make sure that its working correctly. Obviously, if the oil level in the oil tank drops, you know the oil pump is working.

I think the oil tank holds something like 2 quarts of oil. It varies from sled to sled. You just put gas in the gastank and oil in the oiltank. If you decide to premix the first tank, I would mix it at 32:1 (32 parts fuel to 1 part oil). The easiest and cheapest way to measure the oil would be to go to Wal-Mart or some bigbox store that sells chainsaw oil and you can buy a little bottle of oil that is enough to make 1 gallon of premix at a 32:1 ratio. Then, for every gallon of gas you want to mix up, you simply dump 1 bottle of oil in the gas (you can just fill the bottle up once for each gallon of fuel, no need to buy 10 of those bottles)

No man, its cool. A lot of us on here have been around sleds all our life, so for us its kinda common knowledge. If you are new to sleds, this stuff might seem kinda overwelming. None of us was born an expert on this stuff, we all had to learn and we all made mistakes along the way. Dont be afraid to ask questions.

I was asking myself the same question. Any Phazer I've seen has a fan cooled 480 cc engine. I've never heard of a 250 cc Phazer.:dunno:
I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I have owned Phazers.
The lever on the panel is a choke. Use it for cold starts until the machine is slightly warm, just a few seconds to a minute usually.

 

Trust me, there was NEVER, EVER a 250cc Phazer. It was a 485 at first and then in the late '90s when it was moved to the ProAction chassis they made it a 500. There was never a 250cc Phazer.

 

I have a 1991 Phazer it is 485 CC. I do not mix the gas and oil. Fill The gas tank with gas only.And Fill the oil bottle under hood with 2 cycle oil only. Fill oil close to top but not too much it might drain out overfull tube.:thumbsup: That is a fun and pretty quick,light, little sled.

I hope all is well with the sled now? Please never hesitate to ask a question! There is no such thing as a stupid question, although I have had a few stupid answers over the years! Welcome to snowmobiling one o one! It sounds like the previous owner let the kids do the prep work unsupervised.
The only thing I have to add to all the above is to bleed the oil pump, pull out the oil pump cable that is atached to the carb (not the throtle cable the other one) this will make the pump go full bore and should make the sled really start to smoke, this would be a good thing! Get some extra spark plugs (NGK Br9ES)! If you premix a gallon of gas as well as the injector you will likly fowl the plugs, if you premix a tank full you will fowl alot of plugs! Keep us posted!

New sleds come with the first tank premixed as well as getting oil from the oilpump and they dont foul plugs like crazy, so I gotta disagree with you on that one.
Premix the gas for the first tank, and watch the level in the oiltank. If the oil level drops, the pump is working and you have nothing to worry about.
