I have a 1999 Polaris XC 700(non v.e.s.) that continues to pop through the exhaust only around idle. I rebuilt the carbs, set the floats, checked the compression(which was good), and also replaced the carb grommets(cracked bad). It seems like it might be the clutch side but when i pull the plugs the look ok. Recently i put 120 miles on it cause this was the first time out this year and i thought maybe bad gas.

Popping means that is is lean.
Make sure that the idle jets are clear by running a piece of fine wire or monofiliment line through there as well as soaking the carb and blowing it out with compressed air to clean them.

You may still have a chunk of something in the idle jet though, I'd do it again just to make sure. Otherwise you may have a problem with your piston or exhaust port, which is much more expensive and difficult to check.

I had the same problem before with a older sled and it was the throttle limiter switch causing the spark to intermittently cut out at idle. Make sure the throttle safety switch is adjusted correctly.
