Why do the Polaris XLT engines not have a thermostat? My 96 Ski Doo 500 and 99 Yamaha 600 Red Head both have thermostats, which warms the engine up faster and keep it at operating temperature. I figure on a cold -30c day, my Polaris must be running good and cold with no thermostat.

Most of the earlier ones didn't have one either. The 1990 650 Indy I had did not have one. I think there's more a problem of overheating than overcooling on those cooling systems, so Polaris did not see any need to regulate the meager flow coming off of the water pump. Just a SWAG, though...
