Well the latest chapter in my XLT restoration saga... I was just siphoning out the gas and getting it put away for the summer, and noticed something that i hadn't since the last rip this year... Tunnel damage around the mounts for the rear torque arms. The tunnel and footboards buckled. I had hit a bad bump at about 50mph one of my last times out but I think I would have noticed this kind of damage, but maybe hadn't if the paint hadn't chipped off.

I'm guessing two things: this is something not really worth repairing since it would be really difficult to straighten out and reinforce, and not worth it on a nearly 30 year old sled, and secondly, not worth going through the trouble to find a whole new chassis and swap parts, though I know where I may be able to find something (@islandsledder lol)

My best bang for buck is probably start parting out all the good parts I know are on it and try to reinvest in something newer... Ugh.

Oh boy! That tunnel will not last long on another bad bump. You need a newer suspension for that bump ! Time to part it out or keep as a backup sled (that you really couldn't count on)
Yeahhhh it wasn't even a jump or anything like that... Just a random drift dip in a field that had frozen over.

Really not the way I wanted all of this to end.

Oh I'm well aware of the benefits to going newer!

I need to look at it this: I really bought the older machine to learn and hopefully have a bit of fun riding along the way. I learned more than I wanted to and now I'm just try to recoup some of my cost.

Guess we'll see how next winter looks for me!

Yeah I've never gone the eBay route before. The shipping from here and the fees kind of make it prohibitive to me, especially for big stuff, but if I move most of the big pieces I may throw some of the small pieces up on there just on the off chance that someone's looking for a coil pack for example...

The last brappp....
Secondary and chaincase came off today.

It was way more fun putting together with the prospect of riding than taking it apart to sell off... But $500 in the next sled account so far is a plus!
