Sled: 1997, Summit 670. Starts easily, compression is 120+

Took the sled riding this weekend and the temp light flashed for second on 3 different occasions. We were climbing a continuous upward-pointing trail. To be cautious, we turned around. No flashing on the way down or on level ground. The coolant was 1inch below the fill line on the coolant tank

1. Will a small small amount of missing coolant cause that behavior?
2. Is a 1-second flash any cause for concern? (I'm thinking coolant and liquids sloshing around...)
3. Perhaps time to replace the thermostat? I'll bet it is the original from the factory!

Your thoughts please
