Hello, I’m new to the forum and I have a question some people might know. I have a 2000 xc700 that had bad spark and the engine was out of the sled the hole summer. I got a new stator and a new cdi. I put the engine all back together and it ran like a dream, well for a couple days. It started randomly backfiring like crazy at about 5000 rpm’s and hardly moves so I took the stator out again and everything tested good. So my question is, is there a specific spot that the stater has to line up to? I read that if it isn’t lined up with where it’s supposed to be it will mess your timing up very bad. If anyone could help me it would be great.

Welcome
I am fairly sure that the stator only goes in one way!
But it sounds like your carbs need cleaned?
Also with the motor out did you go threw the entire alignment again?
