Hello all,

I'm looking for some help with an older sled. My wife rides a '91 Indy Sport 440. I had a main bearing seize up so I replaced the motor with a used motor (not the best option but the affordable one at the time).

The motor runs well but I am getting a pinging noise under acceleration. I cannot seem to make any difference in the ping with timing or carb adjustment.

Is it possible for a clutch to make a noise similar to engine ping? I don't want to toast the motor if it is engine ping but I would think that timing or carb adjustment would have at least some effect on it.

The plugs are nice and brown and the compression is 125lbs on both sides.

Thanks for any help,

Clutches can make a noise like that, but usually NOT under load. Under accaleration, most clutch parts are tight, so they don't rattle. If it's using the right oil, the compression is good, and the carbs are right, I really wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks

Thanks... I haven't had time to really ride much. Maybe I can play with it this weekend...
