Interested in investing into the skidoo platform, been riding a 2003 Yamaha genesis rx1 for about 5 years now it’s my first sled, it’s been good to me but I’m ready for something newer. Still debating on whether I’m going to buy new or used, however I have a couple questions:

1. Which skidoo sled is best for off/on trail riding?
2. Is the 600r etec enough power or should I just go straight with the big 850?
3. What track length is ideal for off/on trail riding?

Please keep in mind that I live in Ontario Canada.

I’m in a similar position (researching a modern sled for purchase off-season).

Because of my type of riding and use I am looking pretty squarely at the Ski doo utility sleds, and have pretty much narrowed it down to the Expedition Extreme. I want to stay 2-stroke, those turbos don’t attract me at all. Something with the 850, prefer used to save some $ for accessories/upgrades. I would like to find one with the nice 2-up seat, but will put that on myself for the right deal.

It sounds like a Renegade or a Backcountry would do it for you. A renegade will probably be eaiser to find in your part of the country.

This will be a big debate. But in reality, a 600 is plenty of power for what you are doing. Unless you are racing across the lakes or are climbing a lot of steep hills in deep snow, the 850 is more ego than what you will really use. It is cheaper to operate and hold up a lot better.

The renagade has a 137 long track with a 1.25 inch lug. This will handle trail and off trail when the base if firm. I have this setup and can ride in 8 inches of powder with a firm base without any problems.

The Backcountry comes with a 146 long track with a 1.6 inch lug. This will handle the deeper stuff, but you have to keep an eye on it if riding groomed trails to keep the slides and engine cool. My other sled is a 146 and it handles the trails without any problems.
