I'm looking to move on from my 1999 super sport 550. I want to replace it with a sled with more power, but have no idea where to start. I don't want to spend too much money, so I'm looking for something around the same value of that sled (aprox 1250 retail) and maybe $500 or so. It may also be a possibility to send that sled to my dad and sell his 1999 yamaha vmax (1450) so I would have a little more money to work with.
But like I said, I really have no idea where to start, but I know i want a Polaris.

The 550 puts out about 60 HP with few mods to increase the power. Upping to a 600 Edge will give you almost double that stock (118) and with some mods, you can easily get 130 or so. The 700 Edge VES starts at about 129 HP and with mods can easily reach 140. Like PD said, the ride quality going from a Gen II to an Edge is quite an improvement as well.

Find an 01+ XCSP 500 or 600. I have a 500 and she rips for what it is! 105 hp stock, and that's for a 500!

That is your price range
The 500 is a little sleeper for power. If you can find a well cared for 600 that would be good too. In season, the price point is critical and value goes up.
Good luck with finding your new to you sled. They are out there!

The 600 is only roughly like 10 hp more than the 500. If you clutched my 500, it would have no problem keeping up with bigger sleds! It's honestly a very quick and fast sled!

yes I owned both an 04 xcsp 500 (pic in my avatar) 02 xcsp 600, 05 xcsp 600, non-M10s.
The 04 was very good power stock.

all the above is true, I have 3 edge sleds+all have been trouble free so far.I like my non ves 800 the best scary fast, but many will tell you to stay away from the 800 because of crank issues. all I can say is when I find another one cheap I will buy it. good luck wheeling+dealing.
