My buddys 02 polaris xc 700 is losing antifreeze but there is no leaking. I was told that that was a sign he needs to rebuild his top end. Is that true.

Possibly, smell the exhaust and see if it smells sweet!

He said the antifreeze is getting in the exhaust.

try new gaskets first.

I told him that at first but he's got 7000 miles on it and he just wants to rebuild the whole top end.

Then just rings and a hone. If you want to get crazy, put new top bearings. They should still be good though, I tore down a motor for parts with 8000 MI and those were still good. No need to replace the piston.
