I have the correct puller for my 88 enticer 340fc but do not have the tool to keep the clutch from turning while I try to take the bolt out so I can install the puller. Can I put a clean rope down one of the cylinders to keep it from turning over like on a chain saw or will doing this damage rods / crank?

I have done that (89 Enticer 300) and had no problems. Make sure the rope doesn't exit one of the ports on the cylinder. I tried using a strap on the clutch, but it wasn't strong enough to hold the clutch. The rope trick worked fine.

Yep me too, a soft nylon works well! I've also pulled the recoil and used a screw driver threw the cage. Also put a pump or two of grease down into the clutch hole before the puller too!
