i just bought a really nice polaris storm 800 and i was wondering if anyone has one or has rode one and can tell me what to look forward to or what to look out for...maybe some performance tips would be cool
A Bud bought one when they first came out 94 or 95, somewhere around there.
He brought it up to the big trails up north.
The problem he notice right off was, when he was going around 45 on the trails come in to a corner and punch it, it would hesitate for a second and then full blown 800 power going off.
he said it about ripped his arms off.
after a few months Polaris had a recall on something to do with the airbox, for the reason for the problem.
after the fix he said it was fine.
i cant remember what they did though.
but if you bought yours used then the problem most likely has been fixed.
But other than that he ran it 4 years and 6000 mls with no probs.
I have a 96 that I have had for a few years. I grass draged it one summer and it did ok. I put in drivers with one less tooth because I put on a 136x 1.5 track. The top gear I replaced with one with 2 less teeth and the bottom gear I replaced with one that had 2 more teeth and kept the same lenght chain. With all this gearing down I was getting close to 100 mph in 500 ft. It will do about 115 before the rpm`s start to climb. I left this set up for winter riding and love it. From the factory this sled was geared too high and was over fueled badly. Many people tried to correct this by changing the main jets a whole bunch and the first time they got to a lake or somewhere and opened it up they blew it up. I changed pilot and needle jets and have had no problems
