i have a older twin carb 500 rotax engine that goes full throttle on its own and wont shut off. i found a hole in the crankcase could that be the cause please help

yes the hole is your problem!!!! it will be running very lean with a hole in the case!!!! i would bet it is making some other noises as well!!!!

No doubt about it. That hole is the problem. The hole is also causing it to not shut off to. That is because the engine is running very lean because of the hole. When an engine runs lean like that things inside the engine start to glow red, so even if you shut the ignition off the fuel will hit the red hot parts and ignite keeping the engine going. Its kind of scary.
