I have a 1998 Arctic Cat ZL 500. It's works fine and normally it idles on 1500 rpm, but sometimes it goes down to 1000 rpm.

And if i've driven for a while, the key stops working. I have to stop i with the choke.

I think it's some kind of electrical problem...

Does anybody know what the problem could be?

Sorry for my bad english :p

do you have a tether or a kill switch, do they work for shutting it off? is it carburated or efi, because i know my sleds seem to do that as well, but i think its just when they freeze up after going through deep powder.(the idle thing), the key and stuff still work.

Take off your handlebar pad, remove the foam underneath, and check your wiring. Sounds like the ignition wire is starting to become unplugged.

If you can't find anything there, remove the plastic cowl that has the ignition mounted in it. Four screws to remove. Be careful when you put it back on, the two screws on the neck of the tank are just threaded brass inserts - if you overtighten you pull them out. You will see what I mean if you take it off.
