Don't have much experience with it, but 2002 was the first year of the Revs. It was the 4th year of the 800.
Do you know if that MXZ was a Rev? (rider forward) There are a lot of riders that swear by the first Revs because they were not so far forward as the later models. Only thing I really know about them is the plastics always seem to be ready to fall apart, but that could be that the only MXz Revs I've ever been around were ones that had a lot of miles on them. (two were Iron Dog machines).
Friend had the 600 MXZ, pretty sure his was a 2001. He ran the Iron Dog with it. Studded up track that machine would go anywhere and do it really fast.
800 engine in those years "rattled" badly. And the cranks did go bad around that time too. If it's still running just clean it up and run with it! Good luck ! Just remember it's 20 years old so make sure you ride with someone with a tow strap!
Well in my opinion
If you can get it cheap enough, plan on going through the engine.
Pistons and complete gasket set is under $300!
Rebuilding a two stroke is a simple weekend project!
I will be doing a couple this summer, hope to get Video
Thank you for the replies guys the motor has been replaced with 1100 miles on it I’m not a hard-core rider and only pin the throttle once in a while so I’m thinking it should hold Together LOL thanks again
