I am getting a low voltage reading on my 2003 Polaris 550 Trail Touring. My battery is dead and I checked the voltage at the battery. It is 6 volts when idling and goes to 8 or 9 volts as I increase the RPMs. Headlights and hand warmers all work fine. What will cause this issue?

I would start by putting a charger on the battery and see if it will accept a charge. Snowmobile batteries are notorious for early failure unless kept on a battery tender over the summer...

The battery is definitely dead (Frozen) and will not accept a charge. I just bought this sled and before buying a new battery I wanted to make sure that the charging system was working ok. The voltage readings i am getting seem to be low
