Noticed today that there was no foam between the hood and the air box, along with a warning that if this foam is not in place when you operate the sled over 40 mph then engine failure can result. What kind of foam should I use to replace this? Is it just a little rectangular piece that goes over the top of that rectangular hole on the top of the airbox, or does it extend into the box itself? And mostly, is it really necessary?

It just sits on top of the air box and seals the hood to the air box. I have had to replace on my vmax and all I used was the foam that it used for sealing around doors of your house. it has a sticky side to it and is about 1 inch wide. I did this about 3 years ago and havent had a problem yet.

It also keeps snow out when riding. If snow/water gets in the airbox it can get sucked into the motor....then you know what happens then. I just ordered one from ebay for $10 new for my wedge. I think it is worth it. I ,ade a temporary one for now till it gets here.
