I'm new to this sport and I just bought a 99 Grand Touring 700 w/1300 miles on it. I like the sled a lot, but I'm less than impressed with the brakes. It seems as if the first half of the lever stroke is just taking up slack in the system. All the braking occures in the second half of the stroke. When I'm river racing with my friends, I like to keep one or two fingers over the brake lever and then keep the rest wrapped around the handle. The problem is that I'm bottoming the lever on my fingers before the brake starts dragging. This forces me to repostion my grip right at the moment that I'm trying to pucker up. Not cool. What should I be looking at to correct this? Levers? Lines? Adjustment?

Also, is there anyway that I can lighten up the throttle?
