just started workin on a '84 yamaha 440, wouldnt start took the carb off and sprayed some fuel in the intake fired up for a few sec.. i drained the tank and cleaned it up, put some new fuel in it, changed the fuel lines. there is a small diaphram fuel pump attached to the main fuel line from teh trank. there is a pulse line frfom the crankcase that goes to the pump and of course an out to the carb.. the fuel line is new and clean and i can visually see that the gas isnt gettiong to the carb.. any help would be greatly appericaited..

The pump has a cloth/rubber like diaphragm that wears out and can be easily replaced. Kits are like $10. The pulse line uses +/- pressure from the pistons going up and down to make the diaphragm move. when they get weak, they can't build enough pressure to get the fuel out of the tank. Also check the pulse line for cracks. They are VERY hard to spot, so if in doubt, replace it. Hope this helps!
