I need to get a Flex-Hone. I have cast Iron bores to hone. What abrasive and grit should I get?

No flex hone! Use a standard hone with fine grit stones.

I've heard of people using the flex hone/ ball hone with good results. Is It because of my cast Iron bore?

If I do get a 3 stone hone are they hard to use? What about the grit?

The ball hone would be for a 4 stroke, no ports to pop into! A fine grit is perfect!

Just use plenty of oil and go up and down quick. It only takes a few seconds! Then wipe it out and have a look. If you have bits of alum from a piston, use Meratic Acid to scrub them out first then hone!

Nothing wrong with ball hones as long as the cyl is not worn to bad, out of round, tapered. They do a great job of chamfering the ports, 280 -320 grit.

Unannounced to me, my dad ordered a ball hone. So I guess I will have to see what a job it does.

It worked pretty good! the ports didn't need any more work, and the cylinders had a great crosshatch! I used a 240 grit aluminum-oxide flex-hone.
