Hello I recently acquired a Polaris sled from a neighbor and not to sure of the year. The carbs were full of caked on white substance< from my research its ethanol damage. I have clean the carbs enough to make the sled run, but I still don't know what year the sled is. I found this number near where your right foot sits: 0904030 and can not find anything about that number.

Please disregard if I posted this in the wrong forum, I just registered(so I'm New)to find out my model/year of Polaris.

I have a youtube video of it running and a few pictures if it will help.

Are you sure about that number? It looks like a 1990 Sport 340 which would be 0900433

The cable handing out the side is the choke cable, this sled did not have the lever in place for the choke cables. I am quite sure about that number although I had a few drinks before looking at it so I might be off a number.

first three is year -090 is 1990
Next two is model - 40 is not a model numbet 04 would be sport
Next two is engine - 30 is also not an engine number 33 would be 340 fanner.

I think you have a 90 340 sport

Thanks for the info, maybe this sled had an engine swap shown on the tag. I will tell you I am by no means a mechanic I learn by trail and error, but I came here to get some information from others that know their s***. :)

Well...it clearly says 440 on the engine tag but I can't find that model number in the service manual anywhere. Maybe I'm reading it wrong. I know they add zeros as place holders.

Maybe it's a 1990 sport 440. We had a late 80 or early 90s trail 440 that was indestructible.

I take that back. The number stamped in the tunnel is the serial #. The model number is embossed on the tag above that number where all those scratches are. Below that at the bottom of the tag you will see a manufacture date. It will be one year before the model year. If you can make it out it will have a month & a year. If the year is say 89, it is a 90 model year. I bet it's a 440 trail.

That number is almost certainly a serial number and not a model number. The '09' would then indicate it is a 1983 model. The motor model number is confirmed to have been used in the 1983 Indy Trail, which also happens to have that exact "vent" along one edge of the top of the hood as well. Additionally, the motor serial number starts with "82", which would indicate year of manufacture possibly (further confirmation of a '83 model year machine).

The only discrepancy is that the motor is supposed to be a 432cc and that label appears to say 433.

One other thing.

Vintage Snow will have a lot of very good reference material for you for that older machine.

Yes.... PolarisMan site is a good one. A couple of caveats:

1) The 1983 model machines are all shown as very small images, little details, and weren't helpful in my attempt to decipher what this sled is.
2) 1998 is not listed as a model year that you can click on, but the models ARE available if you build the URL yourself... http://www.polarisman.com/http://www.polarisman.com/Home/SledModels?modelyear=1998

Thanks much for all the help guys, I did notice in one of my photos there seems to be a number below the stamped number. To the right of MFD Date:0701983 so I take it is a 83 or 84.

The last 2 numbers are a little hard to make out and what is weird is I can see them in the photo but not with my eyes on the sled.

It might be a bit of a longshot, but you might be able to do a rubbing of the plate to get a better idea as to that MFG date.

I'm still convinced it's an '83 based on the first two digits of the serial number ('84 models started with 11 not 09) and the 82 as the first two digits of the serial number of the motor.
