I'm with ^^^ My brother had a 98 ZL 500 also and on bare ice it would show a little over 100mph on the speedo, taking into speedo error that would be high 80's or low 90's actual speed. The 500 is a very good engine and will hang with many of the 600's in its time.
ya the speedos are pretty optimistic lol, its sad when you think you were doing a hundred and you whip out the GPS and the speed is 10 mph less. Oh well. Thats what is on my ZL anyways, like exactly 10 mph ahead of itself
Yeah the 500 & 600 twins are very thirsty engines and about 85-90 miles to a tank is about all you will get out of it. Also the yamaha 700 triple isn't very hard on gas. My ZRT 800 gets better gas mileage then our older 98 zr 600 and zl 500's.
