Looking for some help identifying my snowmobile... it's an exciter II that has a 2piston 2stroke motor. Possibly a 340cc.

now the VIN on the snowmobile kick plate shows 8xx-009366 and the busted motor showed xxY-009366

so my guess obviously is that it should state 8xY-009366 but I'm unsure of x.
is there a website somewhere that shows the vin's that were put out for these units?

so lets figure out what your sled is. we are solving an eaquation looking for "X"?

the exciter II moniker didnt appear until the late 80's, early 90's. however, the exciter name itself first appeared in the mid 70's.

the third digit on yamaha vins didnt include a letter until the mid 80's. prior to that the third digits consisted of numbers only.

so to help narrow the search, is the sled liquid cooled? does it have a "TSS" front suspension or leaf springs on the steel skis?
