87 400 indy just put in new cyl. stud and gasket the old one blew out long story i have the thing running but she seem alot harder to start then before i did this work the clutch side plug is dry when i choke it and pull it over a couple of times. after about 10 pull she runs fine but the darn thing idles around 3900 rpms tried to adjust carbs but no lone someone tell me what is wrong please.

i just put a new one in and then i took starter fluid and sprayed around the whole thing and it does not change how the sled runs.

Try the same test around the carb boot. sometimes the carb clamps can pucker the boot and cause an air leak.

I would suggest something less explosive than starting fluid to do this test. Try WD-40 or carb cleaner.

That sounds like a carb problem...or an air leak. Did you check your pilot jets? Fuel lines? and like he said...leaks in the carb boots is a common problem.
