Wow, I feel like i just slid out of American Pickers. heard about an older gentleman that had an old Yamaha sled in town... My buddy said "not sure what the hell it is...Liquid cooled, 2 carbs, 2 pipes...big honkin hole in the hood..wanted like $200 for it...." Well the owner, Retired, had gone back to Houston, and it was at his 84 year old mother's house. she called him on my phone and a deal was struck, as her terrier attempted to chew my leg off.... all he knew was ' he never ran it, but the guy he bought it from raced it." Came with about 6 new belts and a pile of new skags....

well after we tracked it down today. we had to crawl over a junk trailer, 4 wheeler, old storm windows, flower pots and gallons of old cooking Grease.

We rummaged through the blue tarps, and finally unearthed an SRX, perfect seat, little crack or two in the hood, so-so track.

I read here about a bent crank causing bogging. We cleaned the old fuel out, dosed it with some gumout, and refilled it, and some new plugs. it has a pretty bad bog, but if you keep it pinned, hold onto your azz, cause it's just flat out stupid fast. (as in, would eat our polaris 500 efi sks' lunch....)

It seems to be clearing up. I'm gonna check the carb syc and the possibility of a bad crank seal. It has twin fuel pumps.....

As with all old 9 digit vin numbers, resources to check out exactly what it is, (and our pristine Enticer 340) are about non existant

the vin is 8J0-002246

any hints or suggestions? read the other thread already.....

I see the enticer in the middle, and that SRX on the left. the SRX has custom paint *DUH*

Keep that SRX, the 440 puts out near 100HP. They are pretty rare, but not to uncommon. It was Yamaha's stock racer. didn't have injected oil like the other models, and less luxuries. But it was CRAZY FAST.

wow that think is sweet!
the SRX is I think a 78, as the de-tuning continued...this one was redone to the 76/7 specs with the bigger 40mm carbs reeds and then bored, plated, ported. we tried it with the racing pipes, but it killed it for the punch and coast trailriding we have here.......

need to tackle the carbs next....and the fuel pumps.and vac circuit. Clutches don't seem to be well suited for what we're doin now, spirited trail riding and occaisionally lining up for a little '500 ft' fun.....posted elswhere I'm gonna swap in a 99 mach z skid and track

With the sled running, check the gaskets by spraying carb cleaner around the motor. If it revs up, you need to replace seals.
