Hello, I have a 2013 Polaris Assault 800 and I have some too end issues. Long story short I believe a reed chipped off and destroyed one side. Cylinders might be okay, head is junk, and the piston is bad. I already bought a new head at haydays so that's done.
Basically I was wondering where to get new pistons and what brand? I know there is alot of debate on it all just want to hear some options. One guy I talked to said OEM but after looking at the price from Indy specialist for $270 per piston price I decided to look for a cheeper option that isn't junk. Another guy said SPI pistons are good too. Is there another piston that isn't junk for a decent budget? I am not looking for the cheapest Chinese piston out there, just looking for something with good quality for the price.
Also I haven't torn apart the top end yet but what is your opinion on honing? The previous owner only had a whole new top end including head, pistons, and cylinders from Indy specialist installed about 500 miles ago so I was wondering if it's going to be needed to be honed again. From the looks the cross hatch is still there and looks good but I will get a closer look when I get it all torn down this weekend.
Also what's the best option for reeds? Again best budget friendly option but don't want junk either.

Thanks for your responses!

OEM style pistons are what came with it and I would stay with them.
The aftermarket is full of Hype
I get mine threw Fowler and are likly less than $80 ea and complete gasket set the same or less!

Also here are the pictures of the cylinders, head and piston. MAG side piston, cylinder and head looks great but PTO side head is gone, piston is gone, and cylinders are okay but not great. There are some groves that are not real deep but they are still there.

What should I do with the cylinders?
Run it?
Get them honed?
Scotch Brite?
Any other options?
