Im working on making a wiriing harness from scratch for my project of putting a Rotax 670 in an 89 Honda Pilot. The sled i took the engine from was the 98 summit and the CDI box has many more connections coming from it than the wiring diagram in the manual shows wires for. So my question is, what is absolutely required for it to run.

the 3 that i know are required are the plug for the coil, the plug for the coil pick up, and the plug for the stator.

Now, the leftover plugs are
flat 3 pin connecting to a tether switch
flat 4 pin with only 3 wiries that it looks like it ran an idiot light in the dash?
2- 2pin plugs that plugged into DPM
2 pin plug for the temp sensor
2 pin plug for the air sensor
and a 3 pin flat plug that attached to the throttle cable.

So of these leftover 7 plus, are any of them required to make the engine run properly? I am not going to be running the mikuni carbs that came with it, so i will not be using the DPM. I am using Seadoo carbs because they made the engine fit alot better.

I know this isnt a question for a sled but you guys here are the most knowledgeable when it comes to sleds and that is what brought me here. Thanks!

I sure would like to see pictures of this build! Those seadoo carbs are down drafts, haven't seen to many of those on sleds. Are you using the seadoo spark arrestors? Those would definatly help keep the water out.

definately need the tether switch hooked up its dess so thats like the key.
I guess that is why the sled did not have a key on it. I added electric start and the 4 wire regulator to charge the battery. Im assuming i can just use wires for the tether and wire them into the keyd killswitch?

Ill attach a few pictures of it. It doesnt look like much now but im just in the build faze. Making engine mounts for it right now. Next is mounting the radiator and fabricating the pipe to fit. I am going to have the entire frame powdercoated and i have sandblasted and painted every other little part/nut/bolt. The last picture is the day that i got it. Had been sitting outside in Alabama for 10+ years.

As far as the spark arrestors, i guess i need to look into what those are. I just learned about the seadoo carbs and they really worked perfect for this project so i picked up a set of them on ebay. I dont really think i need to be concerned about water coming in. I will fabricate some sort of airbox that will sit on top of the carbs.

Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it!

I would make a "snorkel" arrangement similar to what it had originally so that you do not get so much dust into the engine and just add a filter element to the top end.

I plan to make a lower airbox with a foam UNI type filter setup in it, and then use a K&N or similar type filter up higher on the rollcage just for an added bit of dirt filtration

not that easy the tether has a programmed chip in it that i believe the cdi has to read. just tie it in somewhere out of your way and call it a day

Well thats kind of annoying but it makes sense. Its more or less the sleds "key". At least there is still another wire that was tied into the sleds handlebar killswitch that i can use to tie into my killswitch.

So are there any other of the sensors that need to be hooked up, or are they all for the altitude jetting adjustment. they way i am looking at it is that the engine has its own system to run, and it does not care what the temp sensor or the throttle cable sensor or air sensor is, that is just for the cdi to make adjustments to the DPM based on throttle position, altitude and engine temperature? am i correct in assuming this?

Thanks for the help guys, maybe i will start a thread in the off topic and continue my build there if you guys are interested in seeing it progress.

Okay, now i kind of feel like an idiot. I just realized i have been looking at the wiring diagram for a standard Summit 670, not the Summit X 670... i had no idea the wiring was different. SO that explains why my wiring diagram didnt have half of the wires on it that my wire harness had. So i got to comparing both of the diagrams and the entire CDI is different. The CDI from the regular Summit has just the bare essentials that i need and no extra BS.

If i purchased a CDI from a regular non X sled it should work with my 670HO, correct? It wont have all of the "bells and whistles" that i am eliminating and that is a big bonus. PLus no tether switch. If it will work, does it have to be a CDI from a 670 or can it be from the 583/500?

Thanks again for the help!

Somthing like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-Ski-Do...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item3cc00a5c4f

Or is it HO specific? Here is an aftermarket one for an HO. Would this be a better choice? or should i just stick with what i have....http://www.ebay.com/itm/Skidoo-Form...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item35b84a2e44
