You are correct. On that sled, the oil flows from the oil pump to the fuel pump and both ends of the crankshaft. The oil pump and water pump are both driven by a belt in the recoil housing. You may want to check that belt for wear... it is frequently overlooked and if it fails, you have no oil or cooling. That's a pretty quick way to get to walk in the snow ;)

If I remember on my 97 RMK, if the cable detaches from the oil pump, the pump goes to minimum oil. So you would not want to run it very long before lack of oil will cause bearing issues or seize a piston. The directions are the right ones for that oil pump.
