I am new to snowmobiles I was looking over the engine compartment and noticed a Reservoir that the gear shifter seems to be attached to what kind of fluid goes in this? Sorry for such a dumb question but haven't a clue

thats the dipstick and also the filler hole for the gear oil. that would take a 75w80 and the capacity is about 250cc or 8.5 oz. should have a thingy on the end to tell you the level. unscrew it and see.

perfect thanks it is pretty much empty and thought that wasn't right. If this is empty can it bog down the sled or make it not drive?

it could if it was ran dry for long periods. other issues can contribute as well.

you may want to pull the cover and inspect the gears, chain and linkages. then you can rule out issues from there.

if you can, lift the rear of the sled off the ground and rotate the track by hand to see how freely it turns.
