Just joined to get help but know I have been lurking on here for many years and really can't express how thankful I am too have you all so as a resource. For you vintage cat guys I need a little direction. Im getting back to an abandoned project that I never should have taken on but here goes I'll keep it short. 92 wildcat 700 carb in a ZX chassis. Bought new stator and cdi, hooked it up and fired the beast. Runs but not well. Found spark hits on one cylinder all the time, only half the time on the other. Spark is good quality. I have a few ideas, but also need some questions answered.
1) I am running with no wire harness at all by jumping the two non yellow wires. First off an I correct in saying that it should run correctly this way?
2) I have no crank sensor/ trigger, nor did I see a place to plug one in on the harness? Apparently these models opperate without one? I'm questioning btw if possibly I have mixed up flyweels from my graveyard of cat parts.
3) those are the main questions although I could find many to ask if someone were kind to jump in on this. I put in new crank and pistons so I really don't want to give up just yet. I know it's odd but my intention was to run this thing without the wire harness or any accessories as its kinda a rat rod type project at this point. I feel like I'm missing something major here so i thought I'd ask. Again I really appreciate the info iv already got off here.

Sorry yes I meant zr it's a 98 440 snow pro chassis. A couple notes.. the only ground I have is the one on the fly wheel housing as I have no harness. I was checking the spark at the wire with a grounded test light and it jumps plenty far with good blue color. It seems very consistant in that the mag side cylinder fires half the time or maybe every third time can't remember for sure but this makes me wonder if I'm missing something. Does the flywheel trigger the stator for timing? Still wondering if these have no crank sensor.

Stevem5215 you might be correct on grounding. I just remembered the motor is mounted to an aluminum plate that sits on automotive tranny mounts so there is no ground connection to the chassis. The only ground is the stator ground and cdi ground wires to he mag side of engine. That connection is good however but may I need to do a chassis ground?
