According to my Clymer book, and having just recently replaced a head gasket on my Exciter, the torque settings are as follows:
It is a two step process. The first stage you torque both the nuts and bolts to 14 ft-lbs in a crisscross pattern. Then tighten the cylinder head nuts to 24 ft-lbs and the the head bolts to 20 ft-lbs, also using the crisscross pattern.
Generally after I torque the head I let it sit for about 8 hours, then recheck the torque because the gasket will have taken a set. After warming up the engine and bringing it to operating temperture I will shut it down and recheck the torque for the last time. I have never had an additional leaking problem by following this setup.
