Im debating on picking up a 79 panther 5000 with the spirit motor. The guy who has it says it runs good untill you run it hard. Then it will shut down and wont start for a few. It starts rights up and idles great. The fuel pump has been replaced. The carbs rebuilt. CDI changed from a sister sled that runs fine. What could this be? Stator? crankseals? Debating on buying but dont wanna have to tear a motor down. I think its worth the 400 hes asking as seat is good, track is good windshield and skis. Very minor body issue at pull cord area.
Any ideas what to look for?

THe coil could be suspect as they will break down under heat of running. Might as well try that. beats pulling the engine . Crank seals not to hard to replace on those engines iether.
