The indy 500 and the Indy Trail all had relatively the same engine, Typically the Indy 500 was a L/C engine, as the Trail was typically a Fan Cooled engine. Both used the same block, crank, rods, piston, rings, etc....EXCEPT the cylinders, head and of course the FAN.
the INDY 500, used a Mono block cylinder assembly were as the Fan had 2 independent cylinders and heads.
I'm not entirely sure here guys, Did the "INDY 500" have a "chrome" cylinder/ Nickel Plated or were they steel?
look at the exhaust if it it's a v 440/500 and if they r the same direction then they will be a 488i have a polaris indy 488 or 500 i cant tell the guy i got it from says its a 500 1988 but they didnt make the indy trail 500 till 1989 is what someone else told me. so is there a way i can tell what it is doesnt say on the slled?
