The Indy 500 is actually a 488cc. The Indy trail was available in 1988.

look for engine number near recoil

ec 44 is 432cc engine referred to as a 440

ec 50 is 488cc engine referred to as 500

488 engine was available in indy trail as early as 1986

Greetings everyone,

The indy 500 and the Indy Trail all had relatively the same engine, Typically the Indy 500 was a L/C engine, as the Trail was typically a Fan Cooled engine. Both used the same block, crank, rods, piston, rings, etc....EXCEPT the cylinders, head and of course the FAN.

the INDY 500, used a Mono block cylinder assembly were as the Fan had 2 independent cylinders and heads.

I'm not entirely sure here guys, Did the "INDY 500" have a "chrome" cylinder/ Nickel Plated or were they steel?

There was a 500 (488cc) fan cooled engine used in the indy trail
as well as the 500 (488cc) liquid cooled engine you are referring to which was used in the indy 500
Also the two engines used similar but different block, crank, rods, pistons etc, the parts are definitely not interchangeable.
