i have a 2007 600 Switchback, out of the blue- it won't idle when its warm- just quits. Dealer replaced the computer, and put new injectors and harness- but it is still the same. We are stumped, any thoughts??

Definately sounds like electrical temperature related, something is expanding with the heat, opening up, and interrupting power to either a coil or ignition part,have you checked the stator to make sure it is putting out good voltage when cold and warmed up (when its running)? Does it run fine right up until it quits, or does it start to miss and sputter before it dies? I had an older sled that did the same thing, started and idled great cold, take it out for a run, it would just die, turned out one of the coils was dropping out when the motor warmed it up, put 2 new coils on it and it ran like a champ.

The stator seems fine, unplugged light, shut off anything that robs power- seems to make no difference-
It runs fine right until it dies no sputtering- Mid and top end runs clean and crisp.
We had it in the shop and brought it up to temperature 165'. RPM's were a little low on idle, but high enough to switch to reverse and back. As long as the hood was open it would idle- but close the hood and take it out on the trail and it immediately would stop idling and die when i let off.
I am wondering if it sounds like it could be some sort of sensor causing the trouble?

sounds like if you dealer is a parts changer id drive or push that sled thru his windo and go somewhere else obviously you "dealer" knows nothing about trouble shooting and diagosis hes simply a parts changer and cant even change the right parts if i were you id inspect your carbs if you have them? and if it idles when yur hood is off seems like its getting correct air flow see any screw air screw fuel screw back to factory seting blow air thru everything check yur plug caps this isnt a sensor if it runs fine when yur hood is open sensors cant tell this unless there is some kind of new technology. sounds like a slow jet pilot jet starter jet something is clogged if yur good at 1/4 to wide open check yur carb make sure yur ves(varible exhaust system) is clean if you have them make sure your carb boots arent cracked theres no air leaking in if it still persist give them the sled back and go somewhere else! take yur money and buy a 600 edge and do some work to it and it will smoke whatever yoru riding or plan to buy my 600 blows my friends 05 rev 800 with porting exhaust and clutch work he spent 5k i spent 2200 and i put yellow epi 1062 weights blue secondary progressive spring exhaust and some carb tunning.. hope you figure it out!

This model is a cleanfire four -fuel injected model, so no carbs. If the boots were cracked it would lean it out- which it seems too rich to idle.
I think that the effect of the hood being closed heat soaks whatever is the defective part.

temp sensor? does it have ves? if so check and clean. look at diaphrams..you have valves is your timing right? seems to be to much of a hassel if you brought this thing to yur dealer and they couldnt figure it out give it back and tell them to keep it and go buy a polaris there ment for snow not those dam 1000c yamahas yamahas are ment for dirt and water not frezzeing snow lol and cold temperatures. youd be happyer on a polaris! less problems easy trouble shooting only so much to go wrong and there just as fast!

lol wasnt really paying attention to that..i just saw wont idle lol. well whatever you do dont by a yamaha! thermostat sticking? or does it just have a sensor? check any fuel air screws you can if you have anythign of that kind check what ever controls closed throttle to 1/4(pretty much where it wont idle) i dont think yur opening of the hood is causing anything it might seem that way unless if yur hood is hitting something when its closed. keep yur hood open maybe not all the way but open even if you have to hold it up with yur hand ride it slow for a little bit and stop and see if it still wont idle..almost sounds like yur getting to much fuel at idle and its choking it self out try causing it to stal and check yur plugs if there soaked you need to do whatever u can to change yur fuel to air ratio at idle differnt injecctors smaller ones if they make such a thing? you dont have ves? if you do yur diaphrams could be riped and yur valves carbon'd up.

u have fuel pump? if so check and make sure its workign withing specs.. deff make sure yur oil cable is working when u hit the throttle.. or whatever controls yur oil flow.. if the hood is open and its idlein is it smoking at all like more than usual..?
