Hey guys I'm looking at a 2007 iq 600 cfi. He says it has around 5,000 miles and needs a new voltage regulator. I'm wondering if this is a good sled and any common problems these sleds have. With this voltage regulator not working is this going to have any other electrical problems because of this? (I've only ever owned older sleds and don't know alot about the newer sleds)

If the voltage regulator failed to control voltage, bulbs and other electronics could have failed. If you get the sled, replace with a Polaris part, the after-market ones don't last very long.

The 600 cfi is a great engine, it was best in class back in 07 for power with 124 hp. The fuel filter is one spendy little sucker, so when you go to get a new one (Polaris only) take someone with a defibrillator ;)

With 5000 miles, it may be time to toss in a new set of pistons to prevent piston skirt damage. On the 700, that is recommended at around 3000 miles, the 600 will go a bit farther with no issues.

good to know... Polaris is stupid expensive for those. The worst is on my 07 700, it is different than the 600 and different than the 08 versions. I paid almost $100 bucks for the last one at the dealer. Ouch.

Yeah wow okay. Sounds good though. I'm going to go take a look at them next week. With the VR out do I need to worry about anything like the ECU having damage or anything else of that sort?

Look at Hiperf as I saw some on there as well iirc for the 700s that and SPI should make one for that as well. It's the same on the old EFI Indy 500s...Polaris wants 65 bucks for the same fuel filter that is used on Nissans and others that you can buy at any auto parts store for 8-12 bucks.

I was also wondering if anyone has put a fuse on the ECU to protect it in case the VR ever goes out again. Seems like very cheep insurance to protect the ECU.

Ouch just saw the new VR and kit is almost $300. I see there is a bunch of other aftermarket ones for alot less. Is there any other cheeper ones that would work. I see they use a different plug but looks pretty easy to just rewire them to work with the OEM plug. Would these aftermarket ones work and if so which one would be the best. (Can't really afford $300 VR atm)

Electrical issues are really hard to diagnose. If it were me looking, I would pass on a sled with non-running electronics. Things can get spendy really quick. Tell the guy if he wants to sell it to put a VR in it and get it running. If not, discount the price heavily so you aren't the one stuck having to buy a computer or other very spendy electronic parts...
