Ok buddy has a 99 xc 500, it engages around 4k and rather hard. Its for his other half and was wondering what we can do to lower the engagement rpm on it?

To lower the engagement RPM, change to a spring with a smaller initial force and about the same fully shifted force. The primary should have a gold Polaris spring stock, the numbers on that spring are 100/265. Going to a silver Polaris spring will give you 80/270, which is pretty close and will lower engagement RPM.

Before changing springs, make sure the primary is clean and not sticking, and the belt is good. A narrow belt will also cause a harsh engagement.
