1989 Yamaha phaser clutching/ jetting/nozzle question

478 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  kccats
So I have a 89 phaser deluxe with a AAEN can on it and its bored a bit and I am not sure what jets are in it right now because the previous owner did not know, so I bought 150 main jets, new plugs, but I cant find any 110 pilot jet and so if ya know where I could find some let me know. But I'm more curious about what I need to do for clutch springs, weights, and what nozzles will help with the midrange lean. I'm very new to clutches and don't know to much. I'm at 1,200 ft. And with the clutching I am looking for more top end because is is definitely clutched down, just not sure what's in it.

Contact AAEN they are the ones who can tell you the jet settings and possible clutch settings as well for w/e pipe you have

I have contacted them now and they said to get the stiffest springs Yamaha has for it. but again I have no clue what they are or where to find them. And I still cant find that pilot jet.
AAEN does sell springs, helixes or used to for that stuff. They should also give you jet settings. Pilot jet will be from a dealer or ebay or amazon once you find the part numbers. Any dealer can give you the number if they say they can't they are being lazy and just not wanting to look it up.

They told me the jets that I was getting anyway would be great and they do have springs and such but none for the Phaser. I will look into calling some dealers for those jets though. Thanks for the help
For clutching then call EPI they do a ton of it and should have stuff for your snowmobile. Idk why they wouldn't have anything for the Phaser the clutches really didn't change much that I am aware of but KcCats would know best on that front. I know he uses and has had good luck with Goodwin. I tried a couple of his springs but preferred the Venom, SLP and EPI setups better for my stuff. I would check with all of them as they are all top notch and all have secondary helixes as well that you should also change out along with any buttons in the secondary. And tbh depending on how long it has been since the primary was rebuilt I would consider having someone rebuild it with the new spring and having a balancing job done on it. You might be surprised how much of a difference that can make!
Welcome
Hold up
Start with pulling the plugs! What do they look like?
Second pull the carbs and the Jets!
If you don't know whats in there how can you begin to tune?
Clean the cabs and clutches, do compression test @Wot
