I have a 1987 polaris 488, problem is that its not pulling air through the intake on one cylinder what would cause that and how can i fix it please help thanks, - Dustin
When was the last time you cleaned the carburetors? That should be done every preseason, also check the carb boots for cracks. Take apart the airbox as well over the summer mice are known to build nests in there. Every year I end up finding stuff in there to clean out.
Also why do you say it isn't pulling "air" through the intake? What makes you think that just out of curiosity.
What is it exactly? Also sounds like the carbs weren't cleaned right or something. Idk never seen this happen on any Polaris in 34 years of owning them.
The engine is a 1987 488cc polaris, im wondering is there anywhere else it could pull air into it other that the intake like maybe a bad gasket or something letting air in.
So i ended up doing a top end rebuild and bored it out cylinders had some damage, what solved the vaccum issue was the crank seal on the flywheel side, seal was completly broken and garbage
Thanks for the update. That's a hard one to diagnose, what with the recoil and stator in the way.
