I've had a 1987 phazer sitting in the yard for a few years, and I finally decided to fix it up since my brother crashed it. I pulled it out from next to the shed and started tearing into it.

I pulled the carbs and they were absolutely junk. I ordered a new set on ebay which came in the other day. I cleaned them and put them in. Now here's my dilemma. The sled will start if I pour fuel straight into the cylinders, but I cannot get fuel into the motor through the carburetors.

The fuel pump is fine, and I'm getting fuel into the carbs. From there I have no clue. I checked the reeds and that rubber boot between the reeds and carb and it's not ripped or anything.

Are there any screws on the carbs that would completely bock off fuel to the motor? The crew on the top of the carb at the motor end is about 3 turns out from all the way in.

I have an 89 phazer that I am having issues with right now, and in the process of my research, I found out that those screws on top of the carb for your pilot system actually work opposit as to what you would think. They control the air going into the pilot system, and therefore turning them in will richen up you air/fuel mix. Now I am guessing that the choke doesn't do any good either? My question at that point is did you blow out your carbs with compressed air? If not I would go back and do that. Hopefully this helps.

Do you know what the pilot screw is supposed to be set at? No the chokes aren't doing anything. The cables are free and the plungers move but they aren't helping at all. I took the carbs off again and put them in chemtool carburetor cleaner and let them sit for a few hours each, then rinsed them with a quick spray of carb cleaner and blew out every passage. The passage on the left in the group of three in the throat was blocked or stuck or something and so was the one in the bowl that does not get a rubber plug. Is this normal or is there something stuck in it. It was the same on both carbs.

The pilot screw is supposed to be at 1 1/2 turns out. As for that third passage, from what I gather it is a dead end. It doesn't seem to go anywhere on my sled either, and everywhere i have looked everyone seems to say the same thing. Try spraying some starter fluid into the intake as well till it starts going on its own. I know I have had to do this once with my own sled. Spay it little bit by little bit till the engine doesn't want to stall.

check all conections check your air box for mice
check gas lines for holes
did you clean the tank
and lines before trying to start
is your oil pump working
is the choke set properly
and is the slide set right and matching on both carbs
just some suggestions
