I had a 79 Pantera "given" to me...only problem, it will not run. It looks like it was ran low on oil as the crank woobles alot. Being new to snowmobiles alltogether, how do I get the "flywheel" off so that I can get to the crank? By flywheel, I mean the large round cast piece w/ teeth on the end where the electric start motor engages to start the engine.

Is there some setscrewn or ? holding this on? I am aftraid to set the gear puller on it as I think it may break.

Any help would be appreciated!!

plh_in,

After looking at the flywheel parts fiche for this machine, http://www.brownsleisureworld.com/Parts/SNOWMOBILE/1979/1979PANTERA(0250-248-1979)/MAGNETO.htm ,

and then the fiche for the crankshaft, http://www.brownsleisureworld.com/P...ANTERA(0250-248-1979)/PISTONANDCRANKSHAFT.htm ,

it appears that once the nut and washers come off you will have to use a sufficient puller (metric bolts in the 3 holes) to remove the flywheel. One suggestion I have is to search for a Haynes or similar manual for this machine, they always prove to be a great help.

Anyway, I had to remove the flywheel on my '98 ZR...what a hassle, it took a lot of turning the flywheel puller and tapping on the end of the puller main bolt ( per the AC manual for this machine). Considering the age of the machine it might take a lot of elbow grease for you too!

Good luck!
