My son had his machine out yesterday, it definately overheated and stopped running. The engine is seized and I am wondering can it be saved and what problably needs to be replaced.

I do not mind tearing it apart (he will do most of the work). The biggest question is it something that is fixable or not?

Won't know until it's apart. If it seized the pistons, it's not that bad. If it seized a rod bearing on the crank end, it can get expensive. Better off looking for a used engine for it.

Take it apart first. Those old Kawi engines can take quite a beating. As long as the bottom end is okay and the cylinders aren't scored , you can rebuild pretty cheap, 110 bucks for a piston set and 30 for a complete gasket set.(Another used motor could be ready to do the excact same thing)
