I purchased this sled last march and was told it needed rings and pistons. I finally got to take it apart. I found the heads had printed CR14.8 on them. there was some pitting on the squish band so I cut them on the lathe.

When i got to take the cylinders off I drained the antifreeze and pulled the PTO side first. When I took the cylinder off I found there was no ring on the pistons. same on the other side. :dunno:

When I bought the sled he had the head off so I could see the cylinders were in good shape. I really don't now why someone would take a motor apart and take out the rings. I don't think there is any chance the motor was run that way.

I also found the bottom of the engine is full of antifreeze on the PTO side.

Three questions.

Is it possible they removed both cylinders at the same time w/ the y pipe connected. if so maybe the rings would not allow him to put it back together that way.

Is there a easy way to get the antifreeze out of the case. and should ithen flush it with fuel to clean that all out.

14.8 high compresion?

I have pics if needed.

When the jugs are off, you should be able to syphon the coolant out of the motor. Someone must have messed with it. It obviously needs rings to run.

Also 14.8 is a high compression build dont know what your plans are but if you are planning to trail ride it you may want to get the lower compression domes to be able to run on pump gas.

Is it possible to machine these down to lower the comp. If so can anyone let me know what needs to be machined.

Smalls,

I was thinking about using my shop vac with a hose then flusing with an alcohol a few times. then let some oil sit in there till I get to rebuild the top end.

Thanks.

I am not the person to ask as I have never converted a race mod but I am pretty sure you can - Dootalk has a great race section and I would look them up they can answer all your questions
