Ok so our 2002 RMK 800 just won't stop being a huge pain, it has had this idling problem since we got it a few weeks ago where when it starts, it idles fine but over like 10 seconds just loses power, even if you are giving it a bit of gas. I cleaned the jets but didn't do any tuning, which didn't seem to help and it seems to be running a bit rich (new spark plugs have black tips) although that seems to be consistent with most two strokes.

We thought the sled could just be a little cold, it has been sitting for a year or so, so I lifted up the back and we gave it some gas, goosed it a bit(probably 10-20s) it didn't die while the throttle was engaged, but same as before it lost power soon after we let off the gas. Now it won't start, usually it at least turns over in the first few pulls but no dice.

Please help, this one's a bit of a puzzler.

Is it getting spark? How loose or tight is your throttle flipper? Throttle free-play should be 0.010" to 0.030".

Have you tried holding the throttle part way when you pull the rope? When I had an 02 800 RMK, it started with a lot less pulls if I did that... just 1/4 throttle, and make sure you are ready to let go of the flipper!

We just checked and it does spark, we've tried holding the throttle and it hasn't even turnt over. Its gotta be just a small adjustment, its got only like 1500 miles on it so I feel like it couldn't be anything too serious. By flipper do you mean the adjustment screw on top of the carbs? I have adjusted it to a 2.6 mm opening in the air manifolds, as recommended by the manual.

The flipper is the throttle that your thumb engages.

Ok haha I’ve never heard it referred to as that, I adjusted the air manifolds in the carbs, and put a few drops of gas in the cylinders and it started right up. It seems now that the power loss is gone, and it’s running well!

Good deal The 02 800 I had was probably the quickest sled I have ever owned, that thing was fun to ride. Nice memories there!!

I don’t think it was flooded, the plugs weren’t wet upon removal. I think it was an air issue, the idle screw was crazy misadjusted

Lol exactly, my dad worked with a guy who could get a snowmobile stuck in 4-6 inches of snow very easy,lol. We used to mess with him so bad about it. One year we came back from snowmobiling up here as we lived a hour south of Chicago at the time. I was still a kid and back then of course it was all 35mm, in a matter of an hour we had the pictures taped up all over his house and then at Mobil Oil at his locker and other areas. Meanwhile he had dropped us off first. We rushed that fast to mess with him every single time!
