  1. solution to yamaha starting problems

    Yamaha Snowmobiles
Wow old thread! But I might as well chime in... As the owner of 2 yamahas in a state that gets really cold, almost every starting problem can be traced back to your carb. If it isn't perfectly clean, cold weather starting sucks. Both of my sleds will start in -20 nearly as well as +20...
  2. Yamaha sled hoods

    Yamaha Snowmobiles
Unless I'm mistaken, all the RS chassis hoods are the same.
  3. Looking for sled for wife

    Yamaha Snowmobiles
Why such a small sled? A well set up sled can be handled by pretty much anyone. (My wife rides the warrior in my profile, which is a beast!) I have dual carbide skiis with very light pressure, so it turns well but also very easy.
  4. Ski-Doo Escapde Chain Case Oil

    General Sled Chat
Not a fan of ATF myself. ATF is hydraulic fluid and lubrication is only a secondary consideration. Regular old gear oil is cheaper/better and designed for the job. Look at what 4x4 transfer cases require, it isn't ATF. A snowmobile chain case and a 4x4 transfer case are pretty much the same...
  5. Stock pipe mod

    Yamaha Snowmobiles
Why? Louder isn't better, louder gets trails closed. 2 stroke exhausts usually are designed to help draw in fuel/remove exhaust, and altering a halfway decently designed stock exhaust changes that. (in other words, it is louder with less power)
  6. 2004 Warrior

    Yamaha Snowmobiles
Warriors are RX'1 with factory 136" tracks. Love mine, normally the wife rides it but I can't resist hopping on every so often. Hitting the throttle on that thing is always a blast!
  7. Vmax 600 no rebound

    Yamaha Snowmobiles
Don't waste time or money on that skid. Find a sc10 or polaris xt10 and drop that in, massive improvement!

Guessing the $30/year has nothing to do with it. Honestly that is less than a single tank of gas at trail prices. Sledding overall is down, I'd say it is far more due to the overall cost of new sleds, and the lack of younger people. At least where I ride, the average age is north of 40.
  9. RMK Trail to pull a snow groomer? Yay/Nay?

    General Sled Chat
Also look for a 4 stroke yamaha 2-up. Low gearing, and although they are liquid cooled, many came with a air radiator depending on model. I've added that same yamaha radiator to both of my sleds, I can idle all day long without an issue and they will melt the hyfax long before they overheat on...
  10. Boots for eternally cold wifey???

    General Sled Chat
The chemical heat packs work wonders and are cheap... Stay away from electrics, ESPECIALLY battery powered. It talks a lot of power to make heat, and you will be sorely disappointed with battery powered heaters. I keep a supply of the chemical hot packs on my sleds at all times, for when...
  11. 2000CC snowmobile engine project on eBay

    General Sled Chat
probably have to go electric start on that! (both of my current sleds have no pull start option even, and they are half that size)
  12. Sleddin The Black Hills

    General Sled Chat
You could have mentioned that you are the owner, and that you registered on here just to score a free ad to yourself and probably have never ridden a snowmobile. It always rubs me the wrong way when someone comes off as trying to be helpful without actually revealing their true intent.

    General Sled Chat
Compression test would absolutely be first thing to do on that engine, with that kind of mileage. ESPECIALLY if that top end has never been touched, which I highly doubt but you never know. How easy does it start?
  15. Vmax 600

    Yamaha Snowmobiles
the lift brackets make things worse, not better. The suspension sucks, nothing short of ripping it out will fix that.
  16. Vmax 600 engine

    General Sled Chat
Put a x10 suspension under it, huge difference!
  17. Snowmobile Thin Ice Physics question.

    General Sled Chat
So two things are happening... By going fast, you are actually MORE likely to break through. The vertical force of the track is hitting the ice and increasing the load. The counterpoint is that because you are moving fast and are breaking through, you constantly have enough new, unbroken ice...
  18. Need winch mouting advice for V-nose trailer

https://www.amazon.com/Generic-Pulley-Block-Tackle-Hoist/dp/B001Z0WELC This is 7:1 but you can always reduce it by going through fewer sheaves.
  19. Lockable petrol caps

    Yamaha Snowmobiles
Leave a small 1 gallon gas can half full beside the sleds... Will solve the problem unfortunately.
  20. Need winch mouting advice for V-nose trailer

    General Sled Chat
Don't bother with a winch. Just get a come-along and figure out how to anchor one end of it. Might be as simple as a couple eye-hooks through the floor with a backing plate.
