BC_Dan It could be a cylinder crack or could be a warped head. Were the base gaskets changed too?

I would get a straight edge on the head and check it. If it's out a little, it can be sanded flat on a sheet of fine grit sandpaper placed on a very flat surface. Sand in a figure 8 pattern and keep even pressure on the head. Check often so you don't do too much in one area and ruin it.

If it's out a lot, you can find a good used one for pretty cheap.

burning coolant

resurrecting a 2002 600xc.

idles good, runs good, unless I really get on it for a few seconds and it starts to bog and coolant steam comes out of the pipe through all the leaks and kills the motor. the owner replaced the head gaskets without success and gave up. ended up parking it for a few years. I wonder if he got the heads torqued wrong. or a crack. strange how its only an issue under heavy load. preasure build-up pushing coolant past the gaskets?
