85 phazer running on one cylinder

ive had this phazer for about a year now and i have sucessfully redone the entire fuel system last year, this year i re cleaned the carbs twice and changed the plugs. i took it out and it ran great beside the bog on launch. Today i went to start it up and it seemed to be running on one cylinder. i took the plug out and placed it on ground and there was no spark. but it was went. i changed it and it continued to run on one cylinder. i took it for a run around the house and when i went to check it it was colored black. so it must be firing i assume but why not all the time? i swapped the plug wires around the there was still nothing on that plug. can anyone think of what would cause this?

Could be very low compression in that cylinder where it only fires at high rpms. I had the same thing happen. Not trying to get your hopes down but test the compression, with both plugs out one at a time with wide open throttle. Make sure kill switch is on. Report back your findings.

i just went through and check all of the connections i found that the secondary resistance read infinite ohms. just for kicks i put it all back together and started it and it worked with spark on both cylinders. i took it down the street and it revved to about 5000rpm and about 40 mph. i turned around and it bogged and then slowly came up to 5000rpms and 40 mph and got me home.

quick update, i just took it down the street again and it ran fine up and hit about 60mph on both cylinders then came back and into the driveway and it bogged and only ran on one.

You have a coil breaking down when warm.

start by changing out the plug caps. they just unscrew. before installing new ones clip back the wire about 1/4".

from there check your choke plungers and the cable adjustments.
