I have a 500 that is doing the same thing. I get 2 1/2 times better mileage on my Cat 1056cc 4 stroke.

Throttle position and depth of snow have a huge bearing on this too!

was it fine last season? if so, you may consider cleaning the carbs. if the sled is new to you, carb calibration may be off for your elevation.

carbs are clean, not much snow on groomed trails, bought it used 3 years ago and has always used too much gas and oil.

After a run, how do the plugs look?
Very dark black or deep brown?

i noticed oil consumption mentioned this time. adjustments should be part of a regular maintenance routine.

carb settings, jetting, float height, etc can all contribute to high fuel consumption as can clutching and overall condition of the machine.

As well as track alignment, ski alignment to track, bad/bent wearbars on the skis, bad bogey wheels in the rear suspension, misaligned clutches, or a bad belt. Lots to check, but you should be able to get better than 6. Biggest bang is jetting leaner, then clutch offset. If your clutches aren't perfectly aligned, you can waste a ton of power just in the clutching.

The sled only has 2100 miles on it . R.J., after a run the plugs are indeed black, might even say sooty. D. C., Everything but the jetting have been looked at. Thanks guys for the input. Taking it to the shop today.
