ok so i have a 84 i think yamaha excel III and it has the pull start and electric start but it wont start with the pull start is it because i need the key to pull start it and a battery or what cause i dont know where the key is please help me....

im not 100% but im almost posotive you need the key my old mountain mac wasnt electric start but i still needed a key to start it

the only thing i could think of would be to find one that doesnt run pr whatever and take the ignition key and everything from it and put it on yours not sure if it will work but should

You can usually get stabdardized keys for these. Look it up on ebay i can almost guarentee it will fit. I could modify a screwdriver to start my indy if i wanted too. As a matter of fact yamaha prob used all of the same keys in their sleds back in the 80's. And yes you do need a key but you can either disconect the wires and keep them seperate or touch them together (one will be off and the other will be on depending on how the system works) and try starting it!

unplug the connector for the switch and use the kill button until you either get a new key or new switch. unfortunately yamaha keys arent interchangable from sled to sled.

I thought they were. Our toro snowblower key fits in the keyhole of my sled no problem. That doesnt exactly mean i should use it.... Are yamaha ignitions in the 80s just 2 prong? Or was the estart in with the switch rather than on a button??
